James McLaughlin qualifies as Financial Planner at Kingsfleet

Kingsfleet is delighted to announce that James McLaughlin has officially qualified as a Financial Planner, having completed his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and following training and development with the team.

James’ route into financial planning has been far from traditional. Originally a primary school teacher in Australia, his early career was driven by a love of learning and a strong desire to support others. A significant turning point came when he decided to volunteer in Zambia and South Africa – an experience that reshaped his view on life.

“I learnt to love people in a way that Western countries often struggle to – unconditionally,” says James. “My history and background didn’t matter to the people I met. They simply wanted to know me, to support me. It taught me that my purpose in life has to be people.”

It was also during his time in Africa that James met his future wife, a Suffolk local. The couple later settled in the UK, where James briefly returned to teaching before exploring a new path in financial planning – inspired by conversations with his father-in-law, a retired Financial Adviser.

“Teaching gave me the ability to explain complex ideas simply,” says James. “Africa taught me how to connect. Financial planning brings all of that together – it’s about helping people live the life they want.”

James joined Kingsfleet in 2024, drawn by the firm’s commitment to community and people-first approach.

“Kingsfleet always puts people first – their clients, their community and each other. They’re local, charitable and genuinely care. It’s the best workplace I’ve ever been in.”

James gained his full qualification in November and has since been supporting client work, sitting in on meetings, and now leading reviews.

“Spending time with clients, hearing their stories, understanding what matters to them – and being able to help – it really is the best job in the world.”

Colin Low, Managing Director of Kingsfleet, said: “We’re incredibly proud of James. He brings a unique warmth and empathy to his work, shaped by his experiences around the world. He reflects the values we hold as a firm, and we’re excited to see his career continue to grow here at Kingsfleet.”

Congratulations, James – we’re very glad to have you on the team.
